The Mac app is the brain: scan your folders, play locally, and run a private embedded server. The phone apps are the remote: browse, stream, and use CarPlay on the road — all free when you connect to your Mac. Android and Android Auto are coming soon.

Switch devices mid-chapter; each person keeps their own place in the book. The iPhone app also connects to Audiobookshelf. With Plus, download for offline or import a .m4b onto the iPhone with no Mac.

Hardcover integration — Connect your personal API token, link titles (preferring audiobook editions), optionally apply metadata and covers, and mark books Read when you finish. Token and links can sync across your devices via the Lorecaster server.

Getting started

Already run Audiobookshelf? Skip the Mac — install the iPhone app, enter host and port, and stream for free (CarPlay included). Plus is only for offline downloads and local import. Android is coming soon.

Or start with the Mac app — library, player, and server in one package — then add the iPhone client.

On your Mac, get Lorecaster from the Mac App Store, add your audiobook folders, and start the server from the Server tab.
On iPhone, install Lorecaster from the App Store, discover your Mac via Bonjour or connect with host + port (and sign in if multi-user is enabled).
Browse and stream. CarPlay works. Progress stays with your account; optional Hardcover connects in Settings.
Want files on the phone or a pile of .m4b with no server? That’s Lorecaster Plus — tap Listen without a server, or Download / Import after you’re in.

Everything is local and private. The server only serves files from folders you explicitly add (and books you choose to upload from iOS).
